Frequently Asked Questions
Who can buy Reflex?
Reflex Studio Edition is available to film and game studios doing work in character animation. Reflex Educational is available to accredited schools with full-time character animation programs. Availability will be limited during our initial rollout period. We anticipate supporting wider sales in mid-2008.
When can I buy it? How much does it cost?
Reflex Educational is available now with market-competitive academic pricing. We are looking to set up Studio Edition evaluation-phase sites immediately. Please contact us for more information.
Will Reflex be made available for individual users?
We hope to release a shrink-wrapped version of Reflex in the future.
Are you looking for beta testers?
Yes, however we would like to limit beta-testing to experienced professional animators initially. Unfortunately we cannot yet support beta-testing by students. That's not because we don't love you students, we do! But beta testing is resource-intensive on our side, and we don't yet have the ability to support a large group of beta testers, so we need to focus on testers that have a long understanding of this space.
What?! I’m a student, and that above answer is bogus!
Yeah, we know. However, we are looking for new schools that can adopt Reflex. Talk to your animation instructors and tell them about us!
I’m a games developer, can Reflex help me?
Absolutely! Today Reflex supports workgroups, outsourcing, custom workflows, asset reuse and repurposing, motion-capture, in-camera motion editing, complex characters in massive scenes and more that will be of direct benefit to games developers. We have big plans ahead for new games-centric solutions, and we are actively seeking great partners in game development and technology. Drop us a note!
How does this fit into my games/film/broadcast pipeline?
Reflex is a standalone application that fits non-disruptively into existing pipelines. This makes trying out Reflex a low-risk proposition, because just several animators can begin using Reflex without modifying the surrounding pipeline at all. Currently we are supporting Maya-based pipelines, but we want to be able to support other pipelines as well, so tell us what you need.

If you don't require seamless integration, you don't need to be using Maya. Just rig your models using the Reflex Modeling Language.

What platforms does Reflex support?
Reflex Educational presently runs on Mac OS X only, although we expect broader support in the near future. For Reflex Studio Edition, tell us what you need and we can probably support you.
I’m a student, will Reflex make me a better animator?
Yes. Just kidding. No technology can automatically improve your skills, but the right tool can help to reduce distractions from the most vital concerns for the animator: the posing, the timing, the arcs, and the spacing of your movement. We believe that the right tool for the right job can make a big difference in the quality of the work produced, so we’re striving to give animators the best tool possible.
